If you want to make taking care of your animals as easy as possible, you should think about buying a feed trolley. Thanks to the practical tyres, you can easily move the pet food from A to B.

We inform you here about the different materials of the feed wagons, enlighten you about the costs and different variants and define what you should look for when buying a feed wagon.

What material are feed carts for the stable made of?

Feed wagons for the stable are usually made of sheet metal, steel or plastic and the tyres of the wagons are made of pneumatic rubber. All three materials are very robust and durable. In addition, plastic is characterised by its light weight and sheet metal and steel by their high resistance.

How much do feed carts for horses cost?

Feeding trolleys for horses or other animals cost on average between 400 and 1300 €. Of course, it depends on which material you choose and whether the feed cart should have accessories.

If you want a feed wagon that also has a partition, a mineral container, a lid or a lock, you have to expect a higher price than if you opt for a conventional feed wagon.

Of course, there are also feeders that are much more expensive, but these are either made of higher quality materials or are a battery-powered feeder.

What is the size of a feed truck?

Just like the material, the size of a feed wagon also varies. There are feed wagons with a 140 litre capacity, but also some with a capacity of 700 litres. The sizes of the feed wagons are approximately 100 to 125 cm in length, 50 to 100 cm in width and 65 to 85 cm in height, depending on the capacity.

What are the different types of feed wagons for the barn?

There is a wide range of different types of feed wagons on the market. For example, feed wagons are available with or without a lid, feed wagons with or without a partition and feed wagons with or without a mineral container. In addition, most feed carts offer the possibility to lock the cart.

Feed trolley with or without lid

Whether you choose a feed wagon with or without a lid depends on the conditions in your barn. If it is possible that dirt or bacteria could get into the feed, you should buy a feed wagon with a lid. This happens especially if the feed is left around in the trolley for a longer period of time. But also unwanted rodents like mice or the nice stable neighbour are no longer an option with a lockable feed wagon.

If you fill the trolley and feed the contents directly to your pet, you can choose a trolley without a lid. This is usually the case with smaller food trolleys.

Feed wagon with or without partition wall

Dividers are always a good idea if you feed several types of food but do not want them to mix during storage. If you only keep one animal and feed it only one type of food, you do not necessarily need the partition.

Feed wagon with or without mineral container

Mineral containers are well suited for storing mineral feed separately from other types of feed in the feed wagon. The container is simply mounted on the outside or inside wall of the feed wagon.

What do you have to look out for in feed wagons for the stable?

When buying a feed cart for the barn, make sure that it is large enough and has a reasonable capacity. Therefore, before buying, you should consider whether you want to store feed in the trolley or just transport it. For storage, you may need a larger feed wagon than for simple transport.

In addition, it is important to decide whether you also need accessories. Is a lid, a partition or a mineral container important to you? Would you like to protect the feed and therefore be able to lock the feed truck?

The tyres also play an important role. If you travel a long, rather uneven distance with the feed wagon every day, it makes sense to buy a feed wagon with large tyres. If it is only a short, flat route, a simple set of tyres is sufficient.

When do you use feed wagons in the stable?

Feed wagons are used in the stable for storing and/or transporting animal feed from one place to another. This way you can store large amounts of feed in the trolley and drive it directly to your horse's stall. Thanks to the useful divider, you can even feed several horses or other animals with different feed needs.
